Life insurance

The people who count on you deserve a plan that doesn't depend on you being here.

Life insurance replaces your income, pays off the house and covers the bills if something happens to you. Julia can shop hundreds of insurance companies to find coverage that fits your family and your budget.

How much life insurance do you need?

A quick estimate using what your family would need to cover. Adjust the numbers to match your life.

Example numbers are filled in. Include any life insurance through work in "coverage you have."

Your estimate
$0

A rule-of-thumb estimate, not a recommendation. Julia will look at your full picture before suggesting an amount.

Your options

Term, permanent and long-term care, in plain English

Term life

Covers you for a set number of years, often 10 to 30. If you pass away during the term, your family gets the payout.

  • Usually the lowest cost per dollar of coverage
  • Fits the years your income matters most
  • Some policies can convert to permanent later

Often a fit for: young families, mortgages, income replacement

Permanent life

Whole life and universal life last your entire life as long as premiums are paid, and many build cash value over time.

  • Coverage that doesn't expire
  • Cash value you may be able to borrow against
  • Costs more than term for the same amount

Often a fit for: lifelong needs, estate plans, final expenses, business owners

Long-term care

Helps pay for in-home care, assisted living or a nursing home if you need help with daily activities. Some life policies include long-term care benefits.

  • Protects savings from care costs
  • Standalone or combined with life insurance
  • Easier to qualify for when you're younger

Often a fit for: people in their 40s to 60s planning for retirement

For business owners

Protect the business you've built

Life insurance can keep a business running if an owner or key person passes away.

  • Key person coverage pays the business if someone essential is lost, to cover hiring and lost revenue
  • Buy-sell funding lets surviving partners buy out an owner's share from their family
  • Loan protection helps pay off business debt so it doesn't fall on your family

Talk it through with Julia

Bring a rough idea of your business debts, partners and key people. Julia will map out what coverage could look like, with no obligation.

Life insurance FAQ

Isn't the life insurance through my job enough?

It's a good start, but workplace coverage is often only one or two times your salary, and it usually ends if you leave the job. Many people add a personal policy they own and keep no matter where they work.

Do I need a medical exam?

Not always. Some companies offer policies based on health questions and records instead of an exam. Julia can tell you which options fit your age, health and coverage amount.

How much does life insurance cost?

It depends on your age, health, tobacco use, the amount and the type of policy. Term coverage for a healthy adult is often less than people expect. The fastest way to know is a quote.

Should I get term or permanent?

Term covers the years your family depends most on your income, at a lower price. Permanent lasts your whole life and can build cash value. Many families use a mix. Julia will walk through both.

What if I have a health condition?

You may still qualify. Each company looks at health differently, which is why shopping many companies matters. Julia can match you with companies more likely to approve you at a good rate.

Does it cost more to work with Julia?

No. Independent agents are paid by the insurance company, and policy prices are generally the same whether you buy through an agent or directly.

Health insurance

Health coverage when it doesn't come with a job.

Self-employed, between jobs, retiring early or covering your family on your own? Julia compares Marketplace and short-term plans, checks what savings you qualify for, and handles the enrollment with you.

Who Julia helps

If one of these sounds like you, let's talk

Self-employed

Business owners, contractors, gig workers and anyone buying their own plan.

Between jobs

Lost coverage at work? That usually opens a special enrollment window for 60 days.

Retiring before 65

A bridge to Medicare so you're never without coverage.

Families

Coverage for you, your spouse and kids, with savings based on household income.

Your options

Marketplace plans and short-term medical

Marketplace (ACA) plans

Full health coverage that can't turn you down for pre-existing conditions. Many people qualify for tax credits that lower the monthly premium.

  • Carriers Julia works with include Anthem, Ambetter and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, depending on your state
  • Covers preventive care, prescriptions, hospital stays and more
  • Enroll during Open Enrollment or after a life event

Often a fit for: most people buying their own coverage

Short-term medical

Temporary coverage for gaps, like waiting on a new job's benefits. Julia works with National General (Allstate), UnitedHealthcare and Pivot Health.

  • Can often start within days
  • May not cover pre-existing conditions
  • Not a replacement for full coverage, and length limits apply

Often a fit for: short gaps between other coverage

Plan levels

Bronze, Silver, Gold: what the metals mean

Marketplace plans are grouped by how costs are split between you and the plan. The metal says nothing about the quality of care.

LevelMonthly premiumCosts when you get careOften a fit if you
BronzeLowestHighestAre healthy and want protection from big bills
SilverModerateModerate, and can be lower if your income qualifies for extra savingsQualify for cost-sharing help, or want a middle ground
GoldHigherLowerSee doctors often or take regular prescriptions
PlatinumHighestLowestExpect a lot of care (not offered everywhere)
Timing

Open Enrollment for 2027 coverage runs Nov 1 to Jan 15

In most states, enroll by December 15 for coverage that starts January 1. Some states that run their own marketplace set slightly different dates. Outside Open Enrollment, a life event like losing coverage, moving, marriage or a new baby can open a 60-day window.

The big choice

Medicare Advantage or a Supplement?

Medicare Advantage (Part C)Medicare Supplement (Medigap) + Part D
How it worksA private plan replaces Original Medicare and often bundles drug coverage.Keeps Original Medicare and adds a policy that pays much of what Medicare doesn't. Drug coverage is a separate Part D plan.
Monthly costOften low, sometimes $0 beyond your Part B premium.Higher monthly premium, more predictable costs when you use care.
DoctorsUsually a network. Check that your doctors are in it.Any doctor in the U.S. who accepts Medicare.
ExtrasMany plans include dental, vision or hearing benefits.Generally not included.
Changing laterYou can switch each fall during Annual Enrollment.Switching later may require health questions, so timing matters.
